David was educated at Ashfold Prepartory School in Buckinghamshire and St Edwards School, Oxford.
He played the ‘Amateur Circuit’ of top amateur golf events in the United Kingdom from 1974 – 1977.
David first picked up a camera in 1978 when he started working part time unpaid for Neville Chadwick (Leicester News Service) in 1979, covering Leicester City Football Club and Leicester Tigers rugby matches.
In 1981 he took his first full-time job in sports photography at Bob Thomas Sports Photography
David joined Allsport in March 1983 and has worked at Allsport / Getty Images for over thirty-five years. He has covered over 100 Men’s Major Golf Tournaments, including 35 Open Championships and 34 Masters Tournaments. He has also covered over 60 Women’s Majors, 16 Ryder Cups, 16 Walker Cups, all 13 Solheim Cup Matches (The Women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup), four President’s Cups and another 600 plus other golf tournaments around the globe.

David has also worked at 7 World Cup Soccer tournaments, 4 summer and 2 winter Olympic Games. He still loves working at any sporting event and time permitting, always helps out at various Rugby and Football matches each winter.
David has published two major ‘coffee table’ limited edition photographic books with Rizzoli in New York on Golf Courses ‘Fairways of the World’ (2004) and ‘Fairways of Great Britain and Ireland’ (2012). He has also worked as the principal photographer on Golf Instruction books with Severiano Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam and three books with Nick Faldo, two books with Ernie Els and four books with David Leadbetter.
His work has been published in hundreds of golf books globally as well sports books, sports web sites, sports newspapers and editorial publications in general.
Since 2013 David has worked as a Global Ambassador for Glenmorangie alongside Sir Nick Faldo and Tony Jacklin, and in 2016 Justin Rose.
